LG’s G Watch Urbane brings all-metal luxury to Android Wear replica watches

The world’s best-looking Android Wear line-up is about to get classier. On Monday LG announced the G Fake Watch Urbane, an all-metal follow-up to the G Watch R, which I deemed the best Android Wear watch around—if only on aesthetics alone.

LG isn’t talking pricing until Mobile World Congress (the first week of March), but we can assume the Urbane will command a premium that matches its formal-fancy vibe. Where the G Watch R looks like a sporty chronograph, the G Watch Urbane looks like something you’d slip on to impress a date at the Bellagio.

OK, it’s certainly not a Replica Rolex or a Patek Philippe. But the G Watch Urbane does look swanky relative to so many earlier Android Wear replica watches. The Urbane has a thinner package than the G Watch R, and uses that essential circular display, whereas the Asus ZenWatch, while sophisticated-looking, looks more gadgety with its rectangular design.

Why this matters: Don’t be fooled into thinking the G Watch Urbane is a direct response to the upmarket challenge of the imminent Apple Watch. Android Wear watches are not direct competitors to the Apple Watch, because neither Android nor iOS users give a damn about what’s for sale in the opposing camp.

No, the G Watch Urbane matters because Android Wear manufacturers are still trying to unlock the code of user satisfaction. Android Wear watches haven’t sold very well, so now the pressure is on to deliver designs with more consumer appeal. The Moto 360 has sold better than any other Android Wear replica watch, and now it looks like LG is trying to offer an even more upscale circular design that will appeal to men and women, both.

Sure, the G Watch R looks great, but it’s a bit too butch in a watch market that needs pan-gender appeal.

Classy styling, samey specs

LG is making a point to say the Urbane “follows closely in the footsteps” of the G Watch R, but isn’t an upgrade, per se. Judging by specs alone, it’s a fair mincing of words.

Key internals borrow everything from the G Watch R. There’s the same 1.3-inch, 320×320 P-OLED display, the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, and the same 410 mAh battery. In the G Watch R, these components work in concert to deliver a legible color watchface in sunlight; a bright black-and-white watchface in dim/ambient mode; and the best battery life of any Android Wear swiss watch we’ve tested.

Styling-wise, the G Watch Urbane will come in gold and silver “finishes” (it’s unclear if LG is talking real precious metals), and a replaceable, 22mm stitched-leather strap. Looking at the G Watch R and Urbane side-by-side, you can see just how dramatically LG has evolved its design.

The G Watch R appears to have a wider bezel, and of course the notation on the bezel suggests a utilitarian chronograph. The G Watch Urbane, meanwhile, ditches the notation along with the stark black chassis in search of a posher look. But you know what really makes both watches look good? The chunky lugs that attach the leather straps. This is the single design cue that helps the G line scream “watch” instead of “gadget.”

Man accused of pawning paramour’s $3K replica watch she left behind

A West Boca man was arrested Wednesday after deputies said he pawned his ex-girlfriend’s $3,000 Rolex Replica that she accidentally left at his house.

Deputies said Evan Kaplan, 39, and the 23-year-old woman had been romantically involved during the month of October. She took off her fake watch, placed it in the bathroom and forgot to grab it before leaving his house, according to the arrest report.

She called to ask for it back shortly afterward, but he said he couldn’t find it. The woman pressed him to check again but still he said it wasn’t turning up, according to the report.

In January, she filed formal charges and deputies discovered the replica watches had been pawned by Kaplan for about $650 in November, according to the report.

He is charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property and false verification of ownership. He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail Wednesday.

TAG Heuer casts aside Swiss Made label to take on Apple Replica Watch

TAG Heuer is set to enter uncharted territory this year with plans for a smartwatch that will be its only timepiece developed outside Switzerland. The brand and others based in the Alpine country will need to work with partners in Silicon Valley to produce such swiss replica watches as Switzerland lacks the technological expertise to do so itself, according to Jean-Claude Biver, head of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA’s timepiece unit.

“We’re not in the communications industry, Switzerland is not, we don’t have the technology,” Biver, 65, said in an interview at his home near the lakeside city of Montreux last week. “If you don’t have it, you can’t innovate.” Synonymous with timekeeping for centuries, the nation’s replica watch industry has traditionally used “Swiss Made” as a marketing tool to boost the bonafides of its products, arguing that the term goes hand-in-hand with quality, expertise and innovation. With the imminent introduction of the Apple Replica Watch, the industry faces a challenge to those values.

TAG Heuer, which boasts that “Swiss Made is more than a label at Replica TAG Heuer, it’s a state of mind,” is developing its own smartwatch to help stave off the impact of the American product, which poses the biggest threat for fake watches priced at less than $2,000, Biver said.

For a smartwatch, “we can’t produce the engine, the chips, the applications, the hardware — nobody can produce it in Switzerland,” Biver said. “The hardware and the software will come from Silicon Valley. But the watch case, the dial, the design, the idea, the crown, that part of the watch will, of course, be Swiss.” Fifty percent of a watch’s movements need to be produced in the country in order to win the “Swiss Made” label at present. But the expertise is limited to mechanical know-how, Biver said.

Biver has split TAG Heuer’s research and development business into two departments to reflect the “different craftsmanship.” One department focuses on research and development with watchmakers and watch engineers, the other with engineers of technology. TAG Heuer will be able to reveal partnerships it has formed with other companies to create its smartwatch in the next six weeks, he said.

In addition to functionality expected of a smartwatch — think GPS and health monitoring — TAG Heuer’s timepiece will have applications that are specific to its own brand to give it a unique selling point, he said, such as tie-ups with sports it sponsors.

Biver has led brands through transformation before. As CEO of Hublot, he led the introduction of “The Big Bang,” a chronograph that helped the brand to boost revenue under his tenure. Earlier, the executive turned around a moribund brand, Blancpain. He later sold it to Swatch Group AG, and was there tasked with restructuring the Omega label. The Apple Watch is only one of the threats to the industry this year, following the Swiss National Bank’s decision last week to end the minimum exchange rate between the Swiss franc and the euro. The subsequent surge in the franc means that timepieces that are made in Switzerland will be more expensive when exported outside of the country, as all but a fraction are.

The smartwatch market will probably reach about $10 billion in 2018 from as much as $1.8 billion in 2014, Citigroup, Inc. analysts forecast last year, with half of the market in the future coming from traditional watch wearers switching to the tech devices. One person who plans on wearing the Apple Fake Watch is likely Biver himself, he said.

“It’s a fantastic product, an incredible achievement,” he said. “I’m not just living in the tradition and culture and the past, I also want to be connected to the future. The Apple Watch connects me to the future. My watch connects me to history, to eternity.”

Swiss Replica Watch Exports Maintain Slowest Pace Since Financial Crisis

Swiss replica watch exports kept growing at the slowest rate since the financial crisis for a second year as shipments to China and Hong Kong dropped in the final quarter. Exports advanced 1.9 percent to a record 22.2 billion francs ($24 billion) in 2014, the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry said on its website today. Exports to China slumped 27 percent in December and declined 10 percent to Hong Kong.

Timepieces make up more than a tenth of Switzerland’s total exports, led by brands including Replica Rolex, Swatch Group AG’s Omega Replica Watches and Cartier Replica Watches. Financiere Richemont SA’s Cartier. Political protests in Hong Kong, where rich Chinese purchase watches and jewelry at lower tax rates than on the mainland, caused shops to close in September and October.

“Watch exports ended the year 2014 on a negative note,” the federation said. The group gave no forecast for 2015. The Swiss franc’s 14 percent surge this year against the euro is weighing on exporters’ sales abroad. The pro-democracy demonstrations coincided with the China National Day holidays known as Golden Week, one of the busiest times of the year, as well as a patek philippe replica watch industry show in the city. A crackdown on extravagance among Chinese government officials has also weighed on demand.
